The RAeS Boscombe Down Branch invites you to attend the following Evening Lecture
ETPS: Using Simulators to Train Flight Test Professionals
Matthew Enright
BOSCOMBE DOWN / 25th Octoberr 2016

Matthew joined QinetiQ in October 2013 and is responsible for the ETPS Boscombe Down Motion Simulator (BDMS).

In previous roles at Boscombe Down Matt has worked on Puma 2 and Gazelle as an FTO conducting aircraft trials involving the pace car! Matt then spent some time working with the RAF’s RC-135 Airseeker before assuming his current role at ETPS.

Before this, Matthew undertook a MEng degree in Aerospace Engineering with Pilot Studies at the University of Liverpool with the master’s project based upon a fidelity analysis of flight models involving a pilot in the loop analysis.

During the course of this talk Matt will cover the use and operation of the ETPS simulation capability, the Boscombe Down Motion Simulator (BDMS).

He will also cover a bit about its history as part of the development and training of the aircrew for the VAAC (Vectored-thrust Aircraft Advanced Control) Harrier R&D aircraft and how its research oriented design allows us to have interchangeable cockpits and models. He will also cover how ETPS uses it to train test pilots and FTEs (Flight Test Engineers) on the techniques and procedures necessary to conduct flight trials safely and effectively.
