The RAeS Boscombe Down Branch invites you to attend the following Evening Lecture
myCopter – Paving the way for personal Air Vehicles
Dr Mike Jump, University of Liverpool

BOSCOMBE DOWN / 8th DECEMBER 2015

A former Eurofighter/Typhoon aerodynamicist at BAE Systems, Dr. Jump obtained his PhD from the University of Liverpool in 2007 and has been a Lecturer and now Senior Lecturer in Aerospace Engineering there since that year.

His current research interests include rotorcraft handling qualities (Dr. Jump sits on the AHS Handling Qualities Technical Committee), novel configuration design and the practical use of aerial autonomous systems.

He was Principal Investigator at the University on the project to which this presentation relates, ‘myCopter’.

He qualified for a PPL(A) in 1997 and is currently undertaking training towards an IMC Rating.

The European Commission report ‘Out of the Box’ spawned a number of projects aimed at stimulating innovative thinking in the civilian air transport domain. One such project, ‘myCopter’, aimed to investigate the technological, socio-economic and human factors surrounding personal aerial transportation systems (or, as the Press would have it, ‘Flying Cars’).

This presentation will describe the results obtained from the Handling Qualities (HQ) approach adopted to establish guidance on acceptable HQ for such vehicles and the likely training requirements that would result from their adoption.
